Breakfast Boost for Girls
A study recently published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association of more than 2,300 girls found that those who ate cereal for breakfast had a lower body mass index ( Simply eating breakfast, however, didn't yield the same benefit - maybe because other typical A.M. foods like bacon and doughnuts are less nutritious.) Researchers suspect that eating cereal regularly may signal healthful eating habits overall. In fact, girls in the 10 year study who ate cereal consumed more fiber, calcium, iron and vitamins and less fat and cholesterol than non-cereal-eaters. Also, cereal's partner - milk - is packed with calcium, a mineral that might help with weigh control.
