Mayon Volcano at its best

Residence of Legaspi City, Philippines were treated to an overnight fireworks display that greeted Christmas day here at Mount Mayon spewed more lava and pyroclastic materials, prompting more people spending their Noche Buena at the top of this hill.
The spectacle has drawn many tourists to Lignon Hill, considered a view deck for Mayon Volcano, as good wheather and clear skies allowed a clear view of a burning lava flow on Christmas Eve.
Cars lined up at the foot of the hill waiting for their turn to enter the view deck since 10 cars can enter the narrow space of the hill at any given time.
a few meters away from the hill the Philvocs (Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology) lies its observatory.
The glowing red lava coming from the volcano can be seen in both sides oozing from the summit. Explosions was also heard intermitently. Giving tourist more excitement.

Mayon Volcano Could Erupt any days from now

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology (Philvocs) raised to alert level 4 last sunday afternoon out of the maximum of five alert levels. - meaning that the major eruption of Mayon Volcano is possible within days. Philvocs recomended an Extended Danger Zone from the Summit to eigth kilometers (southern sector) and seven kilometers (north sector) of Mayon Volcano in Albay Province, to ensure the safety of the public. Philvocs and Seismology said that near the Mayon Volcano increased in number and size in the past 24 hours, with tha total of 1,942 volcanic earthquakes detected. that's why they raised the alert level 4 from alert level 2 last friday morning. More than 9,200 families evacuated by the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council to the Government Evacuation Center as of Monday morning, December 21, 2009. The Province is also one of the province in the Philippines visited by 22 typhoons this year including typhoon Ondoy and Peping which submerged large area of Northern Luzon, Philippines.

The Philvocs say that the Mayon Volcano is much safer than Mt. Pinatubo compared to their eruption.

GMA Suspended Martial Law in Maguindanao

President Gloria Macapacal Arroyo suspended the declaration of Martial law in Maguindanao, Philippines effective 9:00 PM, December 12, 2009. She suspeded the declaration of Martial Law because of the recomendation of her cabinet security agency after declaring Martial Law in Maguindanao last December 4, 2009 after the massacre of 57 innocent civilians including meida men for filing (COC) certificate of candidacy for this coming election on April 2010. The declaration of Martial Law leads to the arrest of the (ARMM) Gov. Ampatuan Sr. and Vice Gov. Akmad Ampatuan and other Ampatuan Family and there constituents without warrant of arrest. Militar discovered a hundred or even a thousands of high powered guns and ammunation in the Ampatuan residence which the government belief that the high power guns used in killing of 57 innocent civilians including media men and most of them are women.

GMA Proclaims Martial Law in Maguindanao

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo declared martial law in the province of Maguindanao on Saturday morning. In a press conference, Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita announced Proclamation No. 1959 declaring a state of martial law and suspending the privilege of the writ of habeas corpus in the province of Maguindanao, except for certain areas identified as bailiwicks of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) separatists. The declaration of martial law will lead to the arrests without warrants of other members of the Ampatuan family who have been linked to the November 23 massacre of 57 innocent civilians. The carnage drew both local and international condemnation. Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Gen. Victor Ibrado announced that joint police and military teams have taken into custody Maguindanao Gov. Andal Ampatuan Sr. and his son, Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Gov. Zaldy Ampatuan. Ibrado said Ampatuan Sr. was brought to a hospital in Davao City, while the ARMM governor was brought to General Santos City. As of posting, Maguindanao Vice Governor Akmad Ampatuan Sr. and Shariff Aguak Anwar Ampatuan have also been taken into custody. Abs-cbnNEWS/Newsbreak reported early Friday evening that President Arroyo had ordered a state of martial law in Maguindanao, which would take effect on Saturday. Military, police take control Security forces on Saturday took full control of the province of Maguindanao following President Arroyo's order placing the province under martial law.
